DECT NR+ has a standard, chips and an open-source stack. What many teams still lack is a first hands-on experience. That is exactly what the afternoon organised by the OPENER Initiative on the eve of DECT World 2026 is about, and we will be there with our hardware.
On 2 November 2026, at the Hotel Eurostars Grand Central in Munich, the OPENER Initiative runs "Getting Started with NR+", a free pre-event hosted by the DECT Forum. The plan: understand what DECT NR+ is, then get hands-on with real stacks and real boards, alongside the teams who build them.
Codium will present its line of boards for DECT NR+ development, and show how you get from the development environment to a working radio link with the Opener stack.
An afternoon to get started with DECT NR+
The format is deliberately practical. No prior knowledge of DECT NR+ is needed: it starts with the basics, then moves quickly to hands-on work.
- Understand what DECT NR+ is and why it matters for IoT.
- Try NR+ stacks and tools, and finally ask the questions you haven't been able to ask elsewhere.
- Meet the OPENER Initiative team and others from the ecosystem.
- Network over pizza and cold beer to close out the evening.

What Codium will show
In the Experience Area, two boards designed and manufactured in Langres, France, both ready for the Opener stack:

The goal is to show the whole path: setting up the Zephyr development environment, building the application, programming the boards and integrating the Opener stack on real hardware.
Demo 1: the Opener ping-pong
This is the "hello world" of DECT NR+. The same firmware, taken from the Opener samples, runs on both the gateway and the node. The two boards find each other, synchronise, then exchange packets at a regular interval. Simple, but it is all there: the NR+ physical layer, synchronisation and end-to-end data exchange on the open-source stack.
Demo 2: an NR+ sniffer
A working link is good. Seeing what actually goes over the air is better. Our second demo captures the DECT NR+ traffic exchanged between the boards and makes it readable, frame by frame. It is the tool we use every day to understand radio behaviour and debug NR+ applications.
"We are convinced DECT NR+ is the future of smart cities and high-density IoT networks. Our goal is to accelerate its adoption through an easy-to-use, open-source reference stack under the Opener Initiative umbrella."
— Axel Moinet, Codium ElectroniqueCodium and the Opener Initiative
The OPENER Initiative develops an open-source implementation of the DECT NR+ stack. Codium is a member of its Technical Steering Group (TSG): our boards run the Opener stack out of the box, and their board support is maintained alongside the Opener samples.
Registration closed. The pre-event has been fully booked since 26 October. You can still register for DECT World 2026, the main event on 3–4 November, on the DECT Forum website.
Can't make it to Munich? Full specifications of the NR+Gate and NR+Node are on our dedicated product page, and we will gladly give you the demo remotely. Let's talk.
